One of the
primary goals of the foundation is to create a series
of Miracle Gardens across the country.
Miracle gardens
are special universally accessible playgrounds, created to provide fun
for everyone! The playgrounds will be designed for children of all abilities by
eliminating barriers and encouraging interaction. Whether a child arrives at one
of our parks in a wheelchair, a walker or on their own two feet won't matter;
these 'boundless' playgrounds will provide a safe play environment for all
children no matter their ability.
Our
very first Miracle Garden will be named
in honor of Juliana Wetmore and will be called "Juliana's Garden." The
Signing Time foundation team has already been working
with the wonderful Clark County, Florida Commissioners
and we are pleased to report that land for the park has been now
been set aside and the park will
be built in Clay County, Florida!!!
The Signing
Time Foundation has begun raising funds and partnering with local communities to construct
Julianna's garden - our first Miracle Garden. We need your help to make this
miracle come true.

Tom and
Tammy Wetmore live in Orange Park, Florida with their sweet
daughter Juliana who was born two years ago with a rare condition called
Treacher Collins Syndrome. Little
Juliana is missing 30 - 40 percent of the bones in her face and does not have
her upper jaw, eye sockets and cheekbones.
But despite her challenges, she is as energetic and active as other
children her age.
Juliana has
had 15 surgeries so far, and will have to go through much more as doctors
evaluate what the next step should be for her condition that has been described
as the worst case they have ever seen.
Deaf since
birth, Juliana has learned sign language by inviting Rachel, Alex and Leah into
her living room every day by way of the Signing Time Videos. For Juliana, the videos are not just a
source of entertainment. Sign Language
has opened up a world of communication for a little girl that is not able to
talk, laugh, cry or even moan.
When Rachel Coleman
first heard about Juliana she was touched by her story and was moved to learn
that Signing Time was in some way helping this little girl. For Juliana's second birthday, the founders of
Signing Time, Rachel Coleman and Emilie Brown along with their children Alex
and Leah surprised Juliana and her parents by showing up for her birthday
party. It was a heartfelt experience
that the Signing Time gang will always remember.
In addition
to learning more about Juliana's condition, Rachel and Emilie discovered some
of the social challenges that this energetic two-year old faces daily. Tammy indicated that people often stare and
make hurtful comments and wishes that they would ask questions or try to talk
to Juliana. Juliana is an intelligent
girl and loves to be around other children.
The Wetmores often wonder how to get people to see beyond Juliana's
defects and know their daughter for who she is.
And although their journey is rough, Tammy and Tom are very thankful for
their daughter that they so love.
